If you spend a lot of time in your kitchen, then you know how useful a garbage disposer can be. They make life way easier due to the convenience of being able to throw all of your disposals down the drain. However, just like everything else, there are some great ones and bad ones. The Waste King Legend 8000 garbage disposal just so happens to be one of the best ones and it all starts with its incredible motor.
The motor on this appliance is not only powerful but also extremely energy-efficient. It has got enough horsepower and rpm to satisfy even the most bloodthirsty power enthusiasts in the world (1.0 horsepower with 2800 rpm). Good luck finding something that won’t be ground up in the Legend 8000 (unless you try to shove an entire animal in it)! Its Vortex magnet motor offers more power per pound than most garbage disposals. To run this appliance, it will require 7 current-amps, 60 Hertz, and 115 Volts of power.
No Need to Worry About Jams, Noise or Messes
What I find fantastic about the Legend 8000 is that it’s a continuous-feed garbage disposal. Why is this so special? Due to this design choice, you can add waste while the unit is running. The stainless steel swivel impellers will also erase the worry of jamming as they significantly reduce it. Another bonus is that the grinding chamber is made of glass-filled nylon. This ensures that you will never have to worry about corrosion.
Look, a garbage disposer is going to make noise. After all, it’s grinding up all of the waste that you put in it. However, Waste King designed the grinding components to be insulated to minimize as much excess noise as physically possible. Topping off the incredible design is the easily removable splash guard which makes this garbage disposal incredibly easy to clean.
Very Easy to Install and Includes a Lifetime Warranty
Deciding whether a home appliance is easy to install is up to interpretation. I am going, to be honest, if you know absolutely nothing about home plumbing then installing the Legend 8000 will not be easy for you. I say it’s easy to install because the included mount system has all of the necessary hardware that you will need ensuring a no-hassle installation. However, if you have no idea what you are doing in the first place then it won’t matter either way.
Great addition from Waste King is they decided to add a mechanically limited lifetime warranty. What this means is if you purchase this disposal and it develops a mechanical defect (not normal wear and tear) or corrosion within your lifetime, you will get a replacement that is free of charge.
I really don’t have anything bad to say about the Legend 8000. Maybe the only noteworthy warning for you to know is it’s not compatible with all types of sinks (such as some cast-iron sinks). If you have the right sink (you can just call Waste King to make sure), then I definitely recommend heading over to Amazon to purchase this near-perfect garbage disposal.
Runner-Up #1: InSinkErator 1543163 Garbage Disposal
I can’t think of many reasons why you would go with a garbage disposal that isn’t the Legend 8000. However, it’s only fair for me to give you some alternatives. The InSinkErator 1543163, for example, is still a solid second choice. It has a slightly more powerful motor (at 1.1 horsepower) and an auto-reverse grind system. Just like the Legend 8000, this disposal has insulated grinding components (SoundSeal) that minimize noise.
I am just going to guess that the price of this garbage disposal will scare you away. Typically, this brand is more expensive than competing brands. The power and size (being a 40-ounce grind chamber) are a few of the reasons why.
Runner-up #2: InSinkErator Badger 5
Another garbage disposal from InSinkErator makes its way on this list, but there are two key differences: the power and size. The horsepower of the Badger 5 is reduced by over one-half (clocking in at ½) and the size is nearly reduced by a half (only a 26-ounce grind chamber). Just as you guessed, these reductions also mean the price is a lot more reasonable. A really cool bonus to this disposal is it’s backed up by a “we come to you” two-year warranty. So, this means you get two full years of free house calls.
It’s funny how they back this up with a two-year warranty because it tends to go bad after that. Cracks in the grinding chamber tend to show up and leaking starts to happen. This is a good short-term replacement, but don’t expect this garbage disposal to last you a long time.
Runner-up #3: American Standard Garbage Disposal
Although the American Standard garbage disposal doesn’t quite have as many rpm as the Legend 8000 (2700), it does have more horsepower (1.25). It also includes a magnetic guard ring. I love this feature because it will prevent any of your utensils from falling into the garbage disposal. With the swivel impellers being made out of stainless steel, you also won’t have to worry too much about it rusting.
If you choose this alternative, there are a few drawbacks that you should be aware of. For one, the metal ring that you use to lock the disposal into the sink is not well-made. Also, the rubber splash guard is a little too stiff. Finally, the ring that is visible from inside the sink is visually unappealing.
The Legend 8000 is the Best
Unless you have some personal vendetta against me (which I doubt seeing that we have never met), I can’t think of a reason to not go with the Legend 8000 garbage disposal from Waste King. It will grind up nearly everything you put into it with its high horsepower and rpm, can be left on while inserting more waste, is protected against jams and corrosion, has a lifetime warranty for a defect, and is affordable. How are you not impressed by that?! Do yourself a favor and go to Amazon.com to invest in the Legend 8000.
